Of Barossa German origin. Direct translation is Block Head referring to someone stupid: That builder is a Dumnkopf, you know.
Contributor's comments: I grew up in Melbourne and heard this expression much more in my childhood than I do now, living in Adelaide.
Contributor's comments: We used this word in primary school (here in Melbourne, late 70's) to jokingly refer to someone as an idiot. I don't think it was widely used.
