Brisso

Brisbane (rather than Brissie). Brisso is used "down south" in Sydney, but is NOT used in Brisbane. Similarly, rello is used in Sydney - in Brisbane rellie is always used: He's off to Brisso for the weekend.

Contributor's comments: Brisso was a derogatory term locals from the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast called young blokes from Brisbane who were at the coast for the weekend.

Contributor's comments: In the 80s a brisso was what the locals on the Gold and Sunshine Coasts called young blokes who came to the coast for the Weekend.

Contributor's comments: During my teens in Maroochydore in the 80's this was the term we gave to people who just came to the coast and the beach for the weekend and were to us obviously from Brisbane. We of course were far superior as we lived at the beach and surfed every day.

Contributor's comments: I've never heard this used as a name for Brisbane but I've heard it used as a name for people who LIVE in Brisbane. I grew up in regional south-east Queensland and when my friends, siblings and I moved to Brisbane people from my home town referred to us as a Brisso.
