numb nuts

someone acting the fool; term of endearment: Hey numb nuts come over here and give us a hand.

Contributor's comments: Definitely used in Canberra in the 1970s.

Contributor's comments: I've heard this word used in many different parts of Australia and always used to describe someone who is "useless" "clutsy" or "accident prone".

Contributor's comments: A term of endearment between mates particulary after copious amouts of alcohol and at sporting events. Can be sometimes used as an insult meaning gutless or insensitive to a situation: "Hey Numb nuts, grab a beer and come watch the footy with us." or "Your nothing but a numb nuts. Ask the bastard for a raise or I'm leaving."

Contributor's comments: This one isn't confined to Australia. It means exactly the same thing in the Ozark Hills in the US.

Contributor's comments: Still in use in western Qld.
