Contributor's comments: Very much a West Australian expression, where they say elastic band instead of rubber band, and there's even a not-too-shabby rock group called the Elastic Band that plays pretty decent classic rock covers in the Pier Hotel in Port Hedland on Friday and Saturday nights.
Editor's comments: Both "elastic band" and the shortened form "elastic" are used in Sydney and are very unlikely to be regionalisms.
