snib

The action of locking a door or window OR the actual lock or catch on the door or window: Make sure you snib the window before you go out.

Contributor's comments: I come from WA, and I have heard "snib" used to describe the little button on a door lock that you press to prevent the lock from being activated when you shut the door, e.g. if you're just ducking out to get the mail and don't want to lock yourself out. This is referred to as "putting the door on the snib".
