Contributor's comments: I think that much of the popularity of this phrase can be attributed to Rex Hunt. When he called the AFL matches he used the term at the end of almost every match when the outcome was certain before the final siren.
Contributor's comments: 'Thank your mother for the rabbits' - Down in Melbourne I heard this phrase long before I heard Rex Hunt using it. I assumed it came from suburban/rural Australia from some years ago (i.e. the Depression) or even from Ireland/England when rabbit was as go.
