Contributor's comments: 'early minute' is also used in SA (Adelaide) schools and workplace in place of 'early mark' used in NSW (my daughter and I recently moved to Adelaide and have noticed this).

Contributor's comments: I went to school in South Australia (Northern and Adelaide regions) and I'm pretty sure the term "early mark" was used (as well as "early minute").

Contributor's comments: Growing up in Adelaide it was always the early minute.

Contributor's comments: Some have speculated (or even concluded) that the "early minute" developed from South Australia's German Lutheran (and perhaps Cornish) settlers.
