munger
abbreviation from mungbean - slang term used in the Kununurra Ord River region for seasonal workers picking melons, pumpkins or manual day labour in the Horticulture in that area. Came about in the 1980s from term "mungbean" which was used to to describe the hippie style people travelling around Australia who stopped off in Kununurra looking for work. As the horticulture industry grew so did the amount of mungbeans, then shortened to "mungers". Used exstensively but in a nice way: Will have to get a couple of extra "mungers" next week to help with the melon picking. Vehicles used to transport these workers from town are sometimes called "mungerwagons".
