king ping

a schoolyard game usually called "handball" played with a tennis ball batted by the hands on a court drawn on the asphalt with a convenient piece of sandstone (or chalk lifted from the classroom blackboard). Also called KP. We used this in West Ryde (Sydney) when I was a kid in the 70s: Let's play king ping at lunch. Compare handball, four-square, two-square. Also, king pin, KP.

Contributor's comments: We played king-pin in primary school in Perth, but it was more commonly called two-square or four-square depending on the number of people playing.
